There is but one, and he hath not a second, no child, no brother, and yet he ceaseth not to labour, neither are his eyes satisfied with riches, neither doth he reflect, saying: For whom do I labour, and defraud my soul of good things? in this also is vanity, and a grievous vexation.


Consider, and hear me, O Lord my God. Enlighten my eyes that I never sleep in death:


I turned myself to other things, and I saw the oppressions that are done under the sun, and the tears of the innocent, and they had no comforter; and they were not able to resist their violence, being destitute of help from any.


Arise, O God, judge thou the earth: for thou shalt inherit among all the nations.


2 Seest thou, that faith did co-operate with his works; and by works faith was made perfect?


And when they had gone through the whole island, as far as Paphos, they found a certain man, a magician, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Bar-jesu:


And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem: because he was of the house and family of David,


3 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?


0 And she entered into the house of Zachary, and saluted Elizabeth.


3 Your words have been unsufferable to me, saith the Lord.


4 For thus saith the Lord of hosts: As I purposed to afflict you, when your fathers had provoked me to wrath, saith the Lord,


Then shall they cry to the Lord, and he will not hear them: and he will hide his face from them at that time, as they have behaved wickedly in their devices.


The Lord had pity upon this. Yea this also shall not be, said the Lord God.


0 Shall not the day of the Lord be darkness, and not light: and obscurity, and no brightness in it?


For they seek me from day to day, sad desire to know my ways, as a nation that hath done justice, and hath not forsaken the judgment of their God: they ask of me the judgments of justice: they are willing to approach to God.


And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of the Assyrians, and I will protect it.


0 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and they that shall escape of the house of Jacob, shall lean no more upon him that striketh them: but they shall lean upon the Lord the Holy One of Israel, in truth.


5 And man shall be brought down, and man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be brought low.


3 And looking-glasses, and lawns, and headbands, and fine veils.


4 The depths were not as yet, and I was already conceived. neither had the fountains of waters as yet sprung out:


0 Forty years long was I offended with that generation, and I said: These always err in heart.


For the lawgiver shall give a blessing, they shall go from virtue to virtue: the God of gods shall be seen in Sion.


6 But I have cried to God: and the Lord will save me.


2 And whatsoever we shall ask, we shall receive of him: because we keep his commandments, and do those things which are pleasing in his sight.


Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking care of it, not by constraint, but willingly, according to God: not for filthy lucre's sake, but voluntarily:


So we being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.


3 Because the Lord will judge his cause, and will afflict them that have afflicted his soul.


9 Contend not with the wicked, nor seek to be like the ungodly:


6 A most deplorable evil: as he came, so shall he return. What then doth it profit him that he hath laboured for the wind?


4 In the good day enjoy good things, and beware beforehand of the evil day: for God hath made both the one and the other, that man may not find against him any just complaint.


6 And I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to understand the distraction that is upon earth: for there are some that day and night take no sleep with their eyes.


6 For when the just turneth himself away from his justice, and committeth iniquity, he shall die therein: in the injustice that he hath wrought he shall die.


5 And he made in Jerusalem engines of diverse kinds, which he placed in the towers, and in the corners of the walls, to shoot arrows, and great stones: and his name went forth far abroad, for the Lord helped him, and had strengthened him.


Is there any numbering of his soldiers? and upon whom shall not his light arise?
