19 Again I considered all the labours of men, and I remarked that their industries are exposed to the envy of their neighhour: so in this also there is vanity, and fruitless care.

Hear, O my people, and I will speak: O Israel, and I will testify to thee: I am God, thy God.


3 All his days axe full of sorrows and miseries, even in the night he doth not rest in mind: and is not this vanity?


1 For when a man laboureth in wisdom, and knowledge, and carefulness, he leaveth what he hath gotten to an idle man: so this also is vanity, and a great evil.


Alleluia. Give glory to the Lord, and call upon his name: declare his deeds among the Gentiles.


9 And the king said: Is not the hand of Joab with thee in all this? The woman answered, and said: By the health of thy soul, my lord, O king, it is neither on the left hand, nor on the right, in all these things which my lord the king hath spoken: for thy servant Joab, he commanded me, and he put all these words into the mouth of thy handmaid.


4 But all Israel, that was standing round about, fled at the cry of them that were perishing: saying: Lest perhaps the earth swallow us up also.


Be not quickly angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of a fool.


Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest, all the days of thy unsteady life, which are given to thee under the sun, all the time of thy vanity: for this is thy portion in life, and in thy labour wherewith thou labourest under the sun.


Dying flies spoil the sweetness of the ointment. Wisdom and glory is more precious than a small and shortlived folly.


0 Man when he was in honour did not understand: he hath been compared to senseless beasts, and made like to them.


I thought in my heart, to withdraw my flesh from wine, that I might turn my mind to wisdom, and might avoid folly, till I might see what was profitable for the children of men: and what they ought to do under the sun, all the days of their life.
