4 But every man is tempted by his own concupiscence, being drawn away and allured.


7 And one of them said: I beseech thee, my lord, I and this woman dwelt in one house, and I was delivered of a child with her in the chamber.


9 Thou, O king, didst begin to think in thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and he that revealeth mysteries shewed thee what shall come to pass.


3 Lest you should say : We have found wisdom, God hath cast him down, not man.


1 Thou, O king, sawest, and behold there was as it were a great statue: this statue, which was great and high, tall of stature, stood before thee, and the look thereof was terrible.


8 And he is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he may hold the primacy:


3 Who leave the right way, and walk by dark ways:


And said to him: Go forth out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee.


6 And if any man think himself to be religious, not bridling his tongue, but deceiving his own heart, this man's religion is vain.


0 And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the desert of mount Sina, an angel in a flame of fire in a bush.


And I heard the voice of his words: and when I heard, I lay in a consternation, upon my face, and my face was close to the ground.


1 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying: Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyre:


0 And he built towers in the wilderness, and dug many cisterns, for he had much cattle both in the plains, and in the waste of the desert: he had also vineyards and dressers of vines in the mountains, and in Carmel: for he was a man that loved husbandry.


1 He said to Moses: I beseech thee, my lord, lay not upon us this sin, which we have foolishly committed:


8 Till another king arose in Egypt, who knew not Joseph.


I beheld till thrones were placed, and the Ancient of days sat: his garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like clean wool: his throne like flames of fire: the wheels of it like a burning fire.


7 And Daniel made answer before the king, and said: The secret that the king desireth to know, none of the wise men, or the philosophers, or the diviners, or the soothsayers can declare to the king.


3 But woe to them that are with child, and give suck in those days; for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.


And the multitude of them that fan thee, shall be like small dust: and as ashes passing away, the multitude of them that have prevailed against thee.


A time to rend, and a time to sew. A time to keep silence, and a time to speak.


5 And the king made silver and gold to be in Jerusalem as stones, and cedar trees as sycamores, which grow in the plains in great multitude.


Azarias the son of Nathan, over them that were about the king: Zabud, the son of Nathan the priest, the king's friend:


And out of one of them came forth a little horn: and it became great against the south, and against the east, and against the strength.


2 Thou also his son, O Baltasar, hast not humbled thy heart, whereas thou knewest all these things:


7 A chariot of four horses for six hundred pieces of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty: in like manner market was made in all the kingdoms of the Hethites, and of the kings of Syria.


2 Try, I beseech thee, thy servants for ten days, and let pulse be given us to eat, and water to drink:


And the king answering said to the Chaldeans: The thing is gone out of my mind: unless you tell me the dream, and the meaning thereof, you shall be put to death, and your houses shall be confiscated.


They answered again and said: Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will declare the interpretation of it.


8 And all places wherein the children of men, and the beasts of the field do dwell: he hath also given the birds of the air into thy hand, and hath put all things under thy power: thou therefore art the head of gold.


4 He cried aloud, and said thus: Cut down the tree, and chop off the branches thereof: shake off its leaves, and scatter its fruits: let the beasts fly away that are under it, and the birds from its branches.
