21 6 And when they were risen in the morning, and it began now to be light, Samuel called Saul on the top of the house, saying: Arise, that I may let thee go. And Saul arose: and they went out both of them, to wit, he and Samuel.

2 And Samuel said: Doth the Lord desire holocausts and victims, and not rather that the voice of the Lord should be obeyed? For obedience is better than sacrifices: and to hearken rather than to offer the fat of rams.

9 And another said: I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to try them: I pray thee, hold me excused.


4 give ye glory to God for Israel, his magnificence, and his power is in the clouds.


Destruction is thy own, 0 Israel: thy help is only in me.


8 And Saul saw, and understood that the Lord was with David. And Michol the daughter of Saul loved him.


3 And the servants of Saul spoke all these words in the ears of David. And David said: Doth it seem to you a small matter to be the king's son in law? But I am a poor man, and of small ability.


And behold Saul came, following oxen out of the field, and he said: What aileth the people that they weep? And they told him the words of the men of Jabes.


7 And as they were going down in the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul: Speak to the servant to go before us, and pass on: but stand thou still a while, that I may tell thee the word of the Lord.


So Saul commanded the people, and numbered them as lambs: two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand of the men of Juda.


5 God is wonderful in his saints: the God of Israel is he who will give power and strength to his people. Blessed be God.
