8 3 And David said to him: To whom dost thou belong? or whence dost thou come? and whither art thou going? He said: I am a young man of Egypt, the servant of an Amalecite, and my master left me, because I began to be sick three days ago.

3 But David said: You shall not do so, my brethren, with these things, which the Lord hath given us, who hath kept us, and hath delivered the robbers that invaded us into our hands.


And it was told Saul that David was come to Ceila: and Saul said: The Lord hath delivered him into my hands, and he is shut up, being come into a city, that hath gates and bars.


4 And when thou shalt hear the sound of one going in the tops of the pear trees, then shalt thou join battle: for then will the Lord go out before thy face to strike the army of the Philistines.


And they laid the ark of God upon a new cart: and took it out of the house of Abinadab, who was in Gabaa: and Oza, and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart.


Now when David understood, that Saul secretly prepared evil against him, he said to Abiathar the priest: Bring hither the ephod.


8 And Phinees the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron was over the house. So they consulted the Lord and said: Shall we go out any more to fight against the children of Benjamin our brethren, or shall we cease? And the Lord said to them: Go up, for to morrow I will deliver them into your hands.


The senseless man shall not know: nor will the fool understand these things.


2 Understand these things, you that forget God; lest he snatch you away, and there be none to deliver you.


These are the sacrifices which you shall offer: Two lambs of a year old without blemish every day for the perpetual holocaust:


1 And the woman said to him: Whom shall I bring up to thee? And he said, Bring me up Samuel.


3 Yet so that they first went up and wept before the Lord until night: and consulted him, and said: Shall I go out any more to fight against the children of Benjamin my brethren, or not? And he answered them: Go up against them, and join battle.


3 Then all the children of Israel rising up out of the places where they were, set their army in battle array, in the place which is called Baalthamar. The ambushes also which were about the city, began by little and little to come forth,


2 And Saul said: Cast lots between me, and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken.


6 And he brought back all the substance, and Lot his brother, with his substance, the women also the people.


2 Thou stretchedst forth thy hand, and the earth swallowed them.


4 And no man shall hearken to you in this matter. But equal shall be the portion of him that went down to battle and of him that abode at the baggage, and they shall divide alike.


He said therefore to them also: When I shall return a conqueror in peace, I will destroy this tower.


7 But the children of Belial said: Shall this fellow be able to save us? And they despised him, and brought him no presents, but he dissembled as though he heard not.
