Then Thomas, which means, “The Twin,” said to his fellow disciples, “Let us go too, so we can die with Him.” [i.e., by being stoned to death with Jesus. See 11:8].


We should not neglect our assembling together [as a church], as some people are in the habit of doing, but we should encourage one another [spiritually], and [do it] all the more [diligently] as you see the day [of judgment] coming closer.


Simon Peter; Thomas, called “The Twin;” Nathaniel from Cana in Galilee; the sons of Zebedee [i.e., James and John] and two other disciples of Jesus were [all] together [at the lake].


Thomas said to Jesus, “Lord, we do not know where you are going; how could we [possibly] know the way [to get there]?”


Philip, Bartholomew [i.e., the same as Nathaniel. See John 1:45], Thomas [i.e., the same as Didymus. See John 11:16], Matthew, the tax collector [i.e., the same as Levi. See Mark 2:14], James, the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus [i.e., the same as Judas, son of James. See Luke 6:16],


For I am in the presence of two or three [disciples] wherever they are gathered in my name.”


Jesus answered them, “Did I not choose [all] twelve of you, and one of you is a devil?” [Note: The word “devil” means “adversary” or “opponent”].


Now He was speaking about Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, for he was the one, out of the twelve, who was [soon] going to turn Jesus over [to the Jewish authorities].
