What thing shall I take to witness for thee? what thing shall I liken to thee, O daughter of Jerusalem? What shall I equal to thee, that I may comfort thee, O virgin daughter of Zion? For thy breach is great like the sea: Who can heal thee?


And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,


Therefore thou shalt say this word unto them; Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease: for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous blow.


I also could speak as ye do: If your soul were in my soul's stead, I could heap up words against you, And shake mine head at you.


All that pass by clap Their hands at thee; They hiss and wag their head At the daughter of Jerusalem, saying, Is this the city that men call The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth?


I became also a reproach unto them: When they looked upon me they shaked their heads.


Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.


And thou, O tower of the flock, the strong hold of the daughter of Zion, unto thee shall it come, even the first dominion; the kingdom shall come to the daughter of Jerusalem.


The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise: she is forsaken upon her land; there is none to raise her up.


Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, That dwellest in the land of Uz; The cup also shall pass through unto thee: Thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked.


The Lord hath trodden under foot all my mighty men In the midst of me: He hath called an assembly against me To crush my young men: The Lord hath trodden the virgin, The daughter of Judah, as in a winepress.


Go up into Gilead, and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt: in vain shalt thou use many medicines; for thou shalt not be cured.


Again I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: thou shalt again be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry.


Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ask ye now among the heathen, who hath heard such things: the virgin of Israel hath done a very horrible thing.


Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms.


Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.


And he said, Thou shalt no more rejoice, O thou oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon: arise, pass over to Chittim; there also shalt thou have no rest.


Pass through thy land as a river, O daughter of Tarshish: there is no more strength.


And the daughter of Zion is left as a cottage in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.


O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; Happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.


That I may shew forth all thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in thy salvation.


Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, A shaking of the head among the people.
