Joshua 4:6

In the future, when your son asks what this observance means, you will answer him, ‘By using great power the Lord brought us out of Egypt, the place where we were slaves.

And he said to the people of Israel, “In the future, when your children ask you what these stones mean,

With our own ears we have heard it, O God— our ancestors have told us about it, about the great things you did in their time, in the days of long ago:

but instead, as a sign for our people and yours, and for the generations after us, that we do indeed worship the Lord before his sacred Tent with our offerings to be burned and with sacrifices and fellowship offerings. This was to keep your descendants from saying that ours have nothing to do with the Lord.

Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you are resting and when you are working.

Cypress trees will grow where now there are briers; myrtle trees will come up in place of thorns. This will be a sign that will last forever, a reminder of what I, the Lord, have done.”

It is the living who praise you, As I praise you now. Parents tell their children how faithful you are.

Now that I am old and my hair is gray, do not abandon me, O God! Be with me while I proclaim your power and might to all generations to come.

For God's promise was made to you and your children, and to all who are far away—all whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”

Make the Sabbath a holy day, so that it will be a sign of the covenant we made, and will remind you that I am the Lord your God.

I made the keeping of the Sabbath a sign of the agreement between us, to remind them that I, the Lord, make them holy.

They became holy when they were presented at the Lord's altar. So take the fire pans of these who were put to death for their sin, beat them into thin plates, and make a covering for the altar. It will be a warning to the people of Israel.”

to tell the people of Israel, “Keep the Sabbath, my day of rest, because it is a sign between you and me for all time to come, to show that I, the Lord, have made you my own people.

This observance will be a reminder, like something tied on your hand or on your forehead; it will remind you to continue to recite and study the Law of the Lord, because the Lord brought you out of Egypt by his great power.

You must celebrate this day as a religious festival to remind you of what I, the Lord, have done. Celebrate it for all time to come.”

and he told them, “Go into the Jordan ahead of the Covenant Box of the Lord your God. Each one of you take a stone on your shoulder, one for each of the tribes of Israel.
