So the people of Israel started out and three days later arrived at the cities where these people lived: Gibeon, Chephirah, Beeroth, and Kiriath Jearim.


So the king of Israel provided a great feast for them; and after they had eaten and drunk, he sent them back to the king of Syria. From then on the Syrians stopped raiding the land of Israel.


In one of their raids against Israel, the Syrians had carried off a little Israelite girl, who became a servant of Naaman's wife.


Later on Joab and David's other officials returned from a raid, bringing a large amount of loot with them. Abner, however, was no longer there at Hebron with David, because David had sent him away with a guarantee of safety.


Rechab and Baanah set out for Ishbosheth's house and arrived there about noon, while he was taking his midday rest.


David answered them, “I take a vow by the living Lord, who has saved me from all dangers!
