Numbers 11:18 - English Standard Version 2016

18 And say to the people, ‘Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, and you shall eat meat, for you have wept in the hearing of the Lord, saying, “Who will give us meat to eat? For it was better for us in Egypt.” Therefore the Lord will give you meat, and you shall eat.

the Lord said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments


Our fathers refused to obey him, but thrust him aside, and in their hearts they turned to Egypt,


And the people complained in the hearing of the Lord about their misfortunes, and when the Lord heard it, his anger was kindled, and the fire of the Lord burned among them and consumed some outlying parts of the camp.


And the people came to Bethel and sat there till evening before God, and they lifted up their voices and wept bitterly.


Get up! Consecrate the people and say, ‘Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow; for thus says the Lord, God of Israel, “There are devoted things in your midst, O Israel. You cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the devoted things from among you.”


And he said to the people, “Be ready for the third day; do not go near a woman.”


So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign gods that are among you and purify yourselves and change your garments.


Also let the priests who come near to the Lord consecrate themselves, lest the Lord break out against them.”


You shall not eat just one day, or two days, or five days, or ten days, or twenty days,


though he is loath to let it go and holds it in his mouth,


To fill his belly to the full, God will send his burning anger against him and rain it upon him into his body.


He struck the rock so that water gushed out and streams overflowed. Can he also give bread or provide meat for his people?”


And Moses said, “When the Lord gives you in the evening meat to eat and in the morning bread to the full, because the Lord has heard your grumbling that you grumble against him—what are we? Your grumbling is not against us but against the Lord.”
