Esther 7:8 - English Standard Version 2016

8 And the king returned from the palace garden to the place where they were drinking wine, as Haman was falling on the couch where Esther was. And the king said, “Will he even assault the queen in my presence, in my own house?” As the word left the mouth of the king, they covered Haman’s face.

There were white cotton curtains and violet hangings fastened with cords of fine linen and purple to silver rods and marble pillars, and also couches of gold and silver on a mosaic pavement of porphyry, marble, mother-of-pearl, and precious stones.


Then Mordecai returned to the king’s gate. But Haman hurried to his house, mourning and with his head covered.


Behold, the Lord will hurl you away violently, O you strong man. He will seize firm hold on you


The earth is given into the hand of the wicked; he covers the faces of its judges— if it is not he, who then is it?


Kings shall be your foster fathers, and their queens your nursing mothers. With their faces to the ground they shall bow down to you, and lick the dust of your feet. Then you will know that I am the Lord; those who wait for me shall not be put to shame.”


And some began to spit on him and to cover his face and to strike him, saying to him, “Prophesy!” And the guards received him with blows.


And when these days were completed, the king gave for all the people present in Susa the citadel, both great and small, a feast lasting for seven days in the court of the garden of the king’s palace.


So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the wrath of the king abated.


Thus says the Lord: “As the shepherd rescues from the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear, so shall the people of Israel who dwell in Samaria be rescued, with the corner of a couch and part of a bed.
