9 then his brother’s wife shall go up to him in the presence of the elders and pull his sandal off his foot and spit in his face. And she shall answer and say, ‘So shall it be done to the man who does not build up his brother’s house.’

But the Lord said to Moses, “If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be shamed seven days? Let her be shut outside the camp seven days, and after that she may be brought in again.”


even he who comes after me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.”


And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise.”


And he preached, saying, “After me comes he who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie.


And they spit on him and took the reed and struck him on the head.


Then they spit in his face and struck him. And some slapped him,


I gave my back to those who strike, and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard; I hid not my face from disgrace and spitting.


at that time the Lord spoke by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, “Go, and loose the sackcloth from your waist and take off your sandals from your feet,” and he did so, walking naked and barefoot.


They abhor me; they keep aloof from me; they do not hesitate to spit at the sight of me.


Therefore the Lord, the God of Israel, declares: ‘I promised that your house and the house of your father should go in and out before me forever,’ but now the Lord declares: ‘Far be it from me, for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me shall be lightly esteemed.


Then the elders of his city shall call him and speak to him, and if he persists, saying, ‘I do not wish to take her,’


And the name of his house shall be called in Israel, ‘The house of him who had his sandal pulled off.’


Then the redeemer said, “I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I impair my own inheritance. Take my right of redemption yourself, for I cannot redeem it.”
