Deuteronomy 20:8 - English Standard Version 2016

8 And the officers shall speak further to the people, and say, ‘Is there any man who is fearful and fainthearted? Let him go back to his house, lest he make the heart of his fellows melt like his own.’

Now therefore proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, ‘Whoever is fearful and trembling, let him return home and hurry away from Mount Gilead.’” Then 22,000 of the people returned, and 10,000 remained.


But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”


Where are we going up? Our brothers have made our hearts melt, saying, “The people are greater and taller than we. The cities are great and fortified up to heaven. And besides, we have seen the sons of the Anakim there.”’


So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.


Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”


“When you are encamped against your enemies, then you shall keep yourself from every evil thing.


For when they went up to the Valley of Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the people of Israel from going into the land that the Lord had given them.


Then the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we are.”


Now are the chiefs of Edom dismayed; trembling seizes the leaders of Moab; all the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away.


Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”


And when the officers have finished speaking to the people, then commanders shall be appointed at the head of the people.


If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.
