1 Samuel 9:21 - English Standard Version 2016

21 Saul answered, “Am I not a Benjaminite, from the least of the tribes of Israel? And is not my clan the humblest of all the clans of the tribe of Benjamin? Why then have you spoken to me in this way?”

And Samuel said, “Though you are little in your own eyes, are you not the head of the tribes of Israel? The Lord anointed you king over Israel.


To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,


For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”


There is Benjamin, the least of them, in the lead, the princes of Judah in their throng, the princes of Zebulun, the princes of Naphtali.


When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling; he was exalted in Israel, but he incurred guilt through Baal and died.


And Saul’s servants spoke those words in the ears of David. And David said, “Does it seem to you a little thing to become the king’s son-in-law, since I am a poor man and have no reputation?”


And David said to Saul, “Who am I, and who are my relatives, my father’s clan in Israel, that I should be son-in-law to the king?”


But some worthless fellows said, “How can this man save us?” And they despised him and brought him no present. But he held his peace.


Then Samuel took Saul and his young man and brought them into the hall and gave them a place at the head of those who had been invited, who were about thirty persons.


Kish was the father of Saul, and Ner the father of Abner was the son of Abiel.


Summon your power, O God, the power, O God, by which you have worked for us.
