A gradual canticle. Often have they fought against me from my youth, let Israel now say.


Who is there among you that feareth the Lord, that heareth the voice of his servant, that hath walked in darkness, and hath no light? Let him hope in the name of the Lord and lean upon his God.


And his mercy is from generation unto generations, to them that fear him.


The wicked shall see, and shall be angry, he shall gnash with his teeth and pine away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.


For I am delighted with the law of God, according to the inward man:


Alleluia. Praise ye the Lord in his holy places: praise ye him in the firmament of his power.


All my enemies whispered together against me: they devised evils to me.


For the wisdom of the flesh is death; but the wisdom of the spirit is life and peace.


Alleluia of the returning of Aggeus and Zacharias. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord: he shall delight exceedingly in his commandments.


And because the midwives feared God, he built them houses.


Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed in the field.


And Achab called Abdias, the governor of his house. Now Abdias feared the Lord very much.


But though a sinner do evil a hundred times, and by patience be borne withal, I know from thence that it shall be well with them that fear God, who dread his face.
