And the Lord being angry against Israel, delivered them into the hands of plunderers: who took them and sold them to their enemies, that dwelt round about. Neither could they stand against their enemies:


And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the Lord: Who strengthened against them Eglon king of Moab: because they did evil in his sight.


And the Lord being angry with Israel delivered them into the hands of Chusan Rasathaim king of Mesopotamia: and they served him eight years.


How should one pursue after a thousand, and two chase ten thousand? Was it not, because their God had sold them, and the Lord had shut them up?


Thou shalt serve thy enemy, whom the Lord will send upon thee, in hunger, and thirst, and nakedness, and in want of all things. And he shall put an iron yoke upon thy neck, till he consume thee.


May a people, which thou knowest not, eat the fruits of thy land, and all thy labours: and mayst thou always suffer oppression, and be crushed at all times.


And mayst thou grope at midday as the blind is wont to grope in the dark, and not make straight thy ways. And mayst thou at all times suffer wrong, and be oppressed with violence: and mayst thou have no one to deliver thee.


The Lord make thee to fall down before thy enemies. One way mayst thou go out against them, and flee seven ways, and be scattered throughout all the kingdoms of the earth.


And the children of Israel served Eglon king of Moab eighteen years.


Wherefore three thousand men of Juda, went down to the cave of the rock Etam, and said to Samson: Knowest thou not that the Philistines rule over us? Why wouldst thou do thus? And he said to them: As they did to me, so have I done to them.


And David said to Gad: I am in a great strait: but it is better that I should fall into the hands of the Lord (for his mercies are many) than into the hands of men.


Behold, I will stretch out my hand upon thee and will take away thy justification: and I will deliver thee up to the will of the daughters of the Philistines that hate thee, that are ashamed of thy wicked way.
