Be at agreement with thy adversary betimes, whilst thou art in the way with him: lest perhaps the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.


The beginning of quarrels is as when one letteth out water: before he suffereth reproach he forsaketh judgment.


And he that strongly squeezeth the papa to bring out milk, straineth out butter: and he that violently bloweth his nose, bringeth out blood: and he that provoketh wrath bringeth forth strife.


The lips of a fool intermeddle with strife: and his mouth provoketh quarrels.


There is a way which seemeth just to a man: but the ends thereof lead to death.


The prophets prophesied falsehood, and the priests clapped their hands: and my people loved such things. What then shall be done in the end thereof?


And Abner cried out to Joab, and said: Shall thy sword rage unto utter destruction? Knowest thou not that it is dangerous to drive people to despair? How long dost thou defer to bid the people cease from pursuing after their brethren?


Divide, said he, the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.


Better is the end of a speech than the beginning. Better is the patient man than the presumptuous.
