Nehemiah 6:16 - Douay-Rheims version of The Bible - 1752 version
16 And it came to pass, when all our enemies heard of it, that all nations which were round about us were afraid: and were cast down within themselves: for they perceived that this work was the work of God.
16 And it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard thereof, and all the heathen that were about us saw these things, they were much cast down in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God.
16 When all our enemies heard of it, all the nations around us feared and fell far in their own esteem, for they saw that this work was done by our God.
16 And it came to pass, when all our enemies heard thereof, that all the nations that were about us feared, and were much cast down in their own eyes; for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God.
16 When our enemies heard about this, all of the nations around us were afraid and their confidence was greatly shaken. They knew that this work was completed with the help of our God.
16 Then it happened that, when all our enemies had heard of it, all the nations that were around us were afraid, and they were downcast within themselves. For they knew that this work had been accomplished by God.
Now when all the kings of the Amorrhites, who dwelt beyond the Jordan westward, and all the kings of Chanaan, who possessed the places near the great sea, had heard that the Lord had dried up the waters of the Jordan before the children of Israel, till they passed over, their heart failed them: and there remained no spirit in them, fearing the coming in of the children of Israel.
And it came to pass, when Sanaballat, and Tobias, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Azotians heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and the breaches began to be closed, that they were exceedingly angry.
And Sanaballat the Horonite, and Tobias the servant, the Ammonite: heard it, and it grieved them exceedingly, that a man was come, who sought the prosperity of the children of Israel.
And overthrew the wheels of the chariots, and they were carried into the deep. And the Egyptians said: Let us flee from Israel; for the Lord fighteth for them against us.
And it shall be to me a name and a joy and a praise and a gladness before all the nations of the earth that shall hear of all the good things which I will do to them: and they shall fear and be troubled for all the good things and for all the peace that I will make for them.
And hearing these things we were affrighted, and our heart fainted away: neither did there remain any spirit in us at your coming in. For the Lord your God he is God in heaven above, and in the earth beneath.
