Now when they had heard these things, they had compunction in their heart, and said to Peter, and to the rest of the apostles: What shall we do, men and brethren?


And crying with a loud voice, he said: What have I to do with thee, Jesus the Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God that thou torment me not.


And behold one came and said to him: Good master, what good shall I do that I may have life everlasting?


And bringing them out, he said: Masters, what must I do, that I may be saved?


This same following Paul and us, cried out, saying: These men are the servants of the most high God, who preach unto you the way of salvation.


Jesus answered them, and said: Amen, amen I say to you, you seek me, not because you have seen miracles, but because you did eat of the loaves, and were filled.


And behold a certain lawyer stood up, tempting him, and saying, Master, what must I do to possess eternal life?


Praise and beauty are before him: holiness and majesty in his sanctuary.


David therefore said to the Gabaonites: What shall I do for you? And what shall be the atonement for you, that you may bless the inheritance of the Lord?


And it shall be a lamb without blemish, a male, of one year: according to which rite also you shall take a kid.


For this cause I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,


And that he should be loved with the whole heart, and with the whole understanding, and with the whole soul, and with the whole strength; and to love one's neighbour as one's self, is a greater thing than all holocausts and sacrifices.


And every priest indeed standeth daily ministering, and often offering the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.


An ox of the herd, and a ram, and a lamb of a year old for a holocaust:


And Samuel said: Doth the Lord desire holocausts and victims, and not rather that the voice of the Lord should be obeyed? For obedience is better than sacrifices; and to hearken rather than to offer the fat of rams.


Sing ye to the Lord and bless his name: shew forth his salvation from day to day.


And Libanus shall not be enough to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt-offering.


To what purpose do you bring me frankincense from Saba, and the sweet smelling cane from a far country? Your holocausts are not acceptable, nor are your sacrifices pleasing to me.


But when the people of the land shall go in before the Lord in the solemn feasts, he that goeth in by the north gate to adore, shall go out by the way of the south gate: and he that; goeth in by the way of the south gate, shall go out by the way of the north gate: he shall not return by the way of the gate whereby he came in, but shall go out at that over against it.


With their flocks, and with their herds, they shall go to seek the Lord, and shall not find him: he is withdrawn from them.


And if you offer me holocausts, and your gifts, I will not receive them: neither will I regard the vows of your fat beasts.


Thou shalt keep the feast of unleavened bread. Seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread, as I commanded thee, in the time of the month of new corn, when thou didst come forth out of Egypt. Thou shalt not appear empty before me.


The victims of the wicked are abominable to the Lord: the vows of the just are acceptable.


To do mercy and judgment, pleaseth the Lord more than victims.
