They see vain things, and they foretell lies, saying: The Lord saith: whereas the Lord hath not sent them. And they have persisted to confirm what they have said.


And the Lord said to me: The prophets prophesy falsely in my name. I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, nor have I spoken to them: they prophesy unto you a lying vision and divination and deceit and the seduction of their own heart.


Would God I were not a man that hath the spirit, and that I rather spoke a lie: I will let drop to thee of wine, and of drunkenness: and it shall be this people upon whom it shall drop.


Shall thy heart endure or shall thy hands prevail in the days which I will bring upon thee: I, the Lord have spoken and will do it.


What will you do in the day of visitation, and of the calamity which cometh from afar? To whom will ye flee for help? And where will ye leave your glory?


O that they would be wise and would understand, and would provide for their last end!


Speak ye not, saying: It shall not drop upon these, confusion shall not take them.


Nun. Thy prophets have seen false and foolish things for thee: and they have not laid open thy iniquity, to excite thee to penance: but they have seen for thee false revelations and banishments.


Teth. Her filthiness is on her feet and she hath not remembered her end: she is wonderfully cast down, not having a comforter. Behold, O Lord, my affliction, because the enemy is lifted up.


The sinners in Sion are afraid, trembling hath seized upon the hypocrites. Which of you can dwell with devouring fire? Which of you shall dwell with everlasting burnings?


And the inhabitants of this isle shall say in that day: Lo, this was our hope, to whom we fled for help, to deliver up from the face of the king of the Assyrians. And how shall we be able to escape?


Her princes have judged for bribes, and her priests have taught for hire, and her prophets divined for money: and they leaned upon the Lord, saying: Is not the Lord in the midst of us? no evil shall come upon us.


Thy first father sinned: and thy teachers have transgressed against me.


And thou hast said: I shall be a lady for ever. Thou hast not laid these things to thy heart, neither hast thou remembered thy latter end.


How long shall the land mourn and the herb of every field wither for the wickedness of them that dwell therein? The beasts and the birds are consumed: because they have said: He shall not see our last end.


And the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremias speaking these words in the house of the Lord.


Mem. For the sins of her prophets and the iniquities of her priests that have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her.


Sade. Our steps have slipped in the way of our streets, our end draweth near: our days are fulfilled, for our end is come.


And there shall be like people like priest: and I will visit their ways upon them, and I will repay them their devices.


I have seen a horrible thing in the house of Israel: the fornications of Ephraim there: Israel is defiled.


What will you do in the solemn day, in the day of the feast of the Lord?


And he said: I will hide my face from them, and will consider what their last end shall be. For it is a perverse generation, and unfaithful children.


Then the king of Israel assembled the prophets, about four hundred men, and he said to them: Shall I go to Ramoth Galaad to fight, or shall I forbear? They answered: Go up, and the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.


The evil man obeyeth an unjust tongue: and the deceitful hearkeneth to lying lips.


Because they have deceived my people, saying: Peace, and there is no peace: and the people built up a wall: and they daubed it with dirt without straw.


Her prophets are senseless men without faith: her priests have polluted the sanctuary, they have acted unjustly against the law.
