17 And Jeremias said to Sedecias: Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: If thou wilt take a resolution and go out to the princes of the king of Babylon, thy soul shall live and this city shall not be burnt with fire: and thou shalt be safe and thy house.

And I spoke to Sedecias the king of Juda according to all these words, saying: Bend down your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him and his people, and you shall live.


Thus saith the Lord: Whosoever shell remain in this city shall die by the sword and by famine and by pestilence: but he that shall go forth to the Chaldeans shall live, and his life shall be safe, and he shall live.


Therefore hearken not to them, but serve the king of Babylon, that you may live. Why should this city be given up to desolation?


And all the princes of the king of Babylon came in and sat in the middle gate: Neregel, Sereser, Semegarnabu, Sarsachim, Rabsares, Neregel, Serezer, Rebmag, and all the rest of the princes of the king of Babylon.


And Joachin king of Juda went out to the king of Babylon, he and his mother, and his servants, and his nobles, and his eunuchs. And the king of Babylon received him in the eighth year of his reign.


And I will cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the Lord, the God of hosts is his name.


If my people had heard me: if Israel had walked in my ways:


He removed his back from the burdens: his hands had served in baskets.


And let thy name remain and be magnified for ever. And let it be said: The Lord of hosts is God of Israel, and the house of David his servant remaineth before him.


For he is alone, and no man can turn away his thought. And whatsoever is soul hath desired, that hath he done.


And there were assembled to me all that feared the God of Israel, because of the transgression of those that were come from the captivity. And I sat sorrowful, until the evening sacrifice.


Say, therefore, I pray thee, that thou art my sister: that I may be well used for thee, and that my soul may live for thy sake.


And it came to pass in the seven and thirtieth year of the captivity of Joachin king of Juda, in the twelfth month the seven and twentieth day of the month: Evil merodach king of Babylon, in the year that he began to reign, lifted up the head of Joachin king of Juda out of prison.


But the nation and kingdom that will not serve Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon, and whosoever will not bend his neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon: I will visit upon that nation with the sword, and with famine and with pestilence, saith the Lord: till I consume them by his hand.


And Godolias the son of Ahicam the son of Saphan swore to them and to their companions, saying: Fear not to serve the Chaldeans. Dwell in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.


And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel was there, according to the vision which I had seen in the plain.


And now thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Why do you commit this great evil against your own souls, that there should die of you man and woman, child and suckling, out of the midst of Juda, and no remnant should be left you:
