Both the great and the little shall die in the land. They shall not be buried nor lamented: and men shall not cut themselves nor make themselves bald for them.


And he laid his dead body in his own sepulchre: and they mourned over him, saying: Alas! alas! my brother.


Weep not for him that is dead nor bemoan him with your tears: lament him that goeth away, for he shall return no more nor see his native country.


They shall die by the death of grievous illnesses: they shall not be lamented and they shall not be buried: they shall be as dung upon the face of the earth: and they shall be consumed with the sword and with famine: and their carcasses shall be meat for the fowls of the air and for the beasts of the earth.


But thou shalt die in peace: and according to the burnings of thy fathers, the former kings that were before thee, so shall they burn thee. And they shall mourn for thee, saying: Alas, Lord! For I have spoken the word, saith the Lord.


Particularly Jeremias: whose lamentations for Josias all the singing men and singing women repeat unto this day. And it became like a law in Israel: Behold, it is found written in the Lamentations.


I grieve for thee, my brother Jonathan: exceeding beautiful, and amiable to me above the love of women. As the mother loveth her only son, so did I love thee.


And he caused the grove to be carried out from the house of the Lord without Jerusalem to the valley of Cedron. And he burnt it there, and reduced it to dust, and cast the dust upon the graves of the common people.


Joakim was five and twenty years old when he began to reign: and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. The name of his mother was Zebida the daughter of Phadaia of Ruma.

But in the place to which I have removed him, there shall he die: and he shall not see this land any more.


And the sons of Josias were, the firstborn Johanan, the second Joakim, the third Sedecias, the fourth Sellum.


And to the house of the king of Juda: Hear ye the word of the Lord,


Therefore thus saith the Lord against Joakim the king of Juda: He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David: and his dead body shall be cast out to the heat by day and to the frost by night.
