And she put ashes on her head, and rent her long robe, and laid her hands upon her head, and went on crying.


Thus saith the Lord: Cursed be the man that trusteth in man and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord!


And he shall lead Sedecias to Babylon: and he shall be there till I visit him, saith the Lord. But if you will fight against the Chaldeans, you shall have no success.


How exceeding base art thou become, going the same ways over again! And thou shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.


That you be not bowed down under the bond, and fall with the slain? In all these things his anger is not turned away: but his hand is stretched out still.


Therefore God is the leader in our army, and his priests who sound with trumpets, and resound against you: O children of Israel, fight not against the Lord the God of your fathers, for it is not good for you.


And Moses said to them: Why transgress you the word of the Lord, which shall not succeed prosperously with you?


The great ones sent their inferiors to the water: they came to draw, they found no water, they carried back their vessels empty: they were confounded and afflicted, and covered their heads.


For the destruction of the land, because there came no rain upon the earth, the husbandmen were confounded: they covered their heads.


Thus saith the Lord: Write this man barren, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for there shall not be a man of his seed that shall sit upon the throne of David and have power any more in Juda.


Then David said to Urias: Tarry here to-day, and to-morrow I will send thee away. Urias tarried in Jerusalem that day and the next.


And your league with death shall be abolished, and your covenant with hell shall not stand. When the overflowing scourge shall pass, you shall be trodden down by it.


Go up to Libanus and cry: and lift up thy voice in Basan and cry to them that pass by, for all thy lovers are destroyed.


Ain. While we were yet standing, our eyes failed, expecting help for us in vain, when we looked attentively towards a nation that was not able to save.
