For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Juda: and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem thou hast set up altars of confusion, altars to offer sacrifice to Baalim.


Assemble yourselves, and come, and draw near together, ye that are saved of the Gentiles. They have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven work and pray to a god that cannot save.


And he shall say: Where are their gods, in whom they trusted?


Go and call upon the gods which you have chosen. Let them deliver you in the time of distress.


They bear him on their shoulders and carry him and set him in his place: and he shall stand and shall not stir out of his place. Yea, when they shall cry also unto him, he shall not hear: he shall not save them from tribulation.


Israel a vine full of branches, the fruit is agreeable to it: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath multiplied altars, according to the plenty of his land he hath abounded with idols.


They are consumed and are broken together: they could not save him that carried them; and they themselves shall go into captivity.


And Eliseus said to the king of Israel: What have I to do with thee? Go to the prophets of thy father, and thy mother. And the king of Israel said to him: Why hath the Lord gathered together these three kings, to deliver them into the hands of Moab?


And I will pronounce my judgements against them, touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me and have sacrificed to strange gods and have adored the work of their own hands.


And the cities of Juda and the inhabitants of Jerusalem shall go and cry to the gods to whom they offer sacrifice: and they shall not save them in the time of their affliction.


Alas, for that day is great: neither is there the like to it. And it is the time of tribulation to Jacob: but he shall be saved out of it.


Now therefore hear, I beseech thee, my lord the king. Let my petition be accepted in thy sight: and send me not back into the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.


What doth the graven thing avail, because the maker thereof hath graven it, a molten, and a false image? because the forger thereof hath trusted in a thing of his own forging, to make dumb idols.


Woe to him that saith to wood: Awake: to the dumb stone: Arise: can it teach? Behold, it is laid over with gold, and silver, and there is no spirit in the bowels thereof.


When thou shalt cry, let thy companies deliver thee: but the wind shall carry them all off, a breeze shall take them away. But he that putteth his trust in me shall inherit the land and shall possess my holy mount.
