Gird thee with sackcloth, O daughter of my people, and sprinkle thee with ashes: make thee mourning as for an only son, a bitter lamentation, because the destroyer shall suddenly come upon us.


The just shall correct me in mercy, and shall reprove me: but let not the oil of the sinner fatten my head. For my prayer also shall still be against the things with which they are well pleased:


A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high bulwarks.


Then the Pharisees going, consulted among themselves how to insnare him in his speech.


For I heard the reproaches of many, and terror on every side: Persecute him, and, let us persecute him: from all the men that were my familiars and continued at my side: if by any means he may be deceived and we may prevail against him and be revenged on him.


Shall evil be rendered for good, because they have digged a pit for my soul? Remember that I have stood in thy sight, to speak good for them and turn away thy indignation from them.


For I have heard the voice as of a woman in travail, anguishes as of a woman in labor of a child. The voice of the daughter of Sion, dying away, spreading her hands: Woe is me, for my soul hath fainted because of them that are slain.


Lift up thy voice, O daughter of Gallim: attend, O Laisa, poor Anathoth.


thou hast corrected man for iniquity. And thou hast made his soul to waste away like a spider: surely in vain is any man disquieted.


For among my people are found wicked men that lie in wait as fowlers, setting snares and traps to catch men.


Let that man be as the cities that the Lord hath overthrown, and hath not repented: let him hear a cry in the morning and howling at noontide:


their judges falling upon the rock have been swallowed up. They shall hear my words, for they have prevailed:


and my spirit is in anguish within me: my heart within me is troubled.
