19 Hast thou utterly cast away Juda, or hath thy soul abhorred Sion? Why then hast thou struck us, so that there is no healing for us? We have looked for peace, and there is no good: and for the time of healing, and, behold, trouble.

But thou hast utterly rejected us: thou art exceedingly angry against us.


We looked for peace, and no good came: for a time of healing, and, behold, fear.


For when they shall say, peace and security; then shall sudden destruction come upon them, as the pains upon her that is with child, and they shall not escape.


Call them reprobate silver, for the Lord hath rejected them.


There is none to judge thy judgment to bind it up: thou hast no healing medicines.


Why is my sorrow become perpetual, and my wound desperate so as to refuse to be healed? It is become to me as the falsehood of deceitful waters that cannot be trusted.


My inheritance is become to me as a lion in the wood: is hath cried out against me. Therefore have I hated it.


I expected good things, and evils are come upon me: I waited for light, and darkness broke out.


Ain. While we were yet standing, our eyes failed, expecting help for us in vain, when we looked attentively towards a nation that was not able to save.


Mem. To what shall I compare thee, or to what shall I liken thee, O daughter of Jerusalem? To what shall I equal thee, that I may comfort thee, O virgin daughter of Sion? For great as the sea is thy destruction: Who shall heal thee?


And the Lord said to me: If Moses and Samuel shall stand before me, my soul is not towards this people. Cast them out from my sight and let them go forth.


Is there no balm in Galaad? Or is no physician there? Why then is not the wound of the daughter of my people closed?


Cut off thy (hair), and cast it away: and take up a lamentation on high: for the Lord hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath,


But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused the prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against his people, and there was no remedy.


I have forsaken my house, I have left my inheritance, I have given my dear soul into the land of her enemies.


For she is become weak unto good that dwelleth in bitterness: for evil is come down from the Lord into the gate of Jerusalem.


The man that with a stiff neck despiseth him that reproveth him, shall suddenly be destroyed: and health shall not follow him.


For thus saith the Lord: Thy bruise is incurable, thy wound is very grievous.


For Israel and Juda have not been forsaken by their God, the Lord of hosts: but their land hath been filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel.


Thau. Thou hast called as to a festival those that should terrify me round about, and there was none in the day of the wrath of the Lord that escaped and was left: those that I brought up and nourished, my enemy hath consumed them.
