Dearly beloved, think not strange the burning heat which is to try you, as if some new thing happened to you;


If thou lose hope being weary in the day of distress, thy strength shall be diminished.


Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of the Jordan to the strong and beautiful: for I will make him run suddenly upon her. And who shall be the chosen one whom I may appoint over her? For who is like to me and who shall bear up against me? And who is that shepherd that can withstand my countenance?

My son, reject not the correction of the Lord: and do not faint when thou art chastised by him:


And as soon as they came into the Jordan, and their feet were dipped in part of the water (now the Jordan, it being harvest time, had filled the banks of its channel),


And the king commanded Jeremiel the son of Amelech and Saraias the son of Ezriel and Selemias the son of Abdeel, to take up Baruch the scribe and Jeremias the prophet: but the Lord hid them.


And when Jeremias had made an end of speaking all that the Lord had commanded him to speak to all the people, the priests and the prophets and all the people laid hold on him, saying: Let him be put to death.


These are they who passed over the Jordan in the first month, when it is used to flow over its banks: and they put to flight all that dwelt in the valleys both toward the east and toward the west.


Therefore thus saith the Lord to the men of Anathoth, who seek thy life and say: Thou shalt not prophesy in the name of the Lord and thou shalt not die in our hands.
