2 Who hath raised up the just one from the east, hath called him to follow him? He shall give the nations in his sight, and he shall rule over kings: he shall give them as the dust to his sword, as stubble driven by the wind, to his bow.

THUS saith the Lord to my anointed Cyrus, whose right hand I have taken hold of, to subdue nations before his face, and to turn the backs of kings, and to open the doors before him: and the gates shall not be shut.


I shall beat them as small as the dust of the earth: I shall crush them and spread them abroad like the mire of the streets.


Who call a bird from the east, and from a far country the man of my own will. And I have spoken and will bring it to pass: I have created, and I will do it. Hear me, O ye hardhearted, who are far from justice.


I have raised up one from the north: and he shall come from the rising of the sun. He shall call upon my name: and he shall make princes to be as dirt, and as the potter treading clay.


And surely their stock was neither planted, nor sown, nor rooted in the earth. Suddenly he hath blown upon them, and they are withered: and a whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.


Thus saith Cyrus king of the Persians: The Lord the God of heaven hath given to me all the kingdoms of the earth, and he hath charged me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judea.


I have raised him up to justice and I will direct all his ways. He shall build my city and let go my captives, not for ransom, nor for presents, saith the Lord, the God of hosts.


Thus saith Cyrus king of the Persians: All the kingdoms of the earth hath the Lord the God of heaven given to me; and he hath charged me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judea. Who is there among you of all his people? The Lord his God be with him, and let him go up.


For this Melchisedech was king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him:

He shall pursue them, he shall pass in peace: no path shall appear after his feet.


I, the Lord have called thee in justice, and taken thee by the hand, and preserved thee. And I have given thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles:


I, even I have spoken and called him. I have brought him, and his way is made prosperous.


Samech. The Lord hath taken away all my mighty men out of the midst of me: he hath called against me the time, to destroy my chosen men: the Lord hath trodden the winepress for the virgin daughter of Juda.
