Isaiah 10:5

And he will stretch out his hand upon the north, and will destroy Assyria: and he will make the beautiful city a wilderness, and as a place not passable, and as a desert.


And the Lord shall make the glory of his voice to be heard, and shall shew the terror of his arm, in the threatening of wrath and the flame of devouring fire: he shall crush to pieces with whirlwind and hailstones.


So shall it fall out: That I will destroy the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot: and his yoke shall be taken away from them: and his burden shall be taken off their shoulder.


Shall the axe boast itself against him that cutteth with it? Or shall the saw exalt itself against him by whom it is drawn? As if a rod should lift itself up against him that lifteth it up, and a staff exalt itself, which is but wood.


You shall see and your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like an herb, and the hand of the Lord shall be known to his servants, and he shall be angry with his enemies.


To them that come from a country afar off, from the end of heaven: the Lord and the instruments of his wrath, to destroy the whole land.


For, before the child know to call his father and his mother, the strength of Damascus and the spoils of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of the Assyrians.


The Lord hath done great things for us: we are become joyful.


And the Lord thundered from heaven, and the highest gave his voice: hail and coals of fire.


Out of that land came forth Assur, and built Ninive, and the streets of the city, and Chale.


Hast thou not heard what I have done from the beginning? From the days of old I have formed it, and now I have brought it to effect: that fenced cities of fighting men should be turned to heaps of ruin.


The Lord shall bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon the house of thy father, days that have not come since the time of the separation of Ephraim from Juda, with the king of the Assyrians.


In that day the Lord shall shave with a razor that is hired by them that are beyond the river, by the king of the Assyrians, the head and the hairs of the feet, and the whole beard.


Therefore, behold, the Lord will bring upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, the king of the Assyrians and all his glory. And he shall come up over all his channels and shall overflow all his banks,


For yet a little and a very little while: and my indignation shall cease, and my wrath shall be upon their wickedness.


The Lord of hosts hath sworn, saying: Surely as I have thought, so shall it be. And as I have purposed,


Behold the land of the Chaldeans: there was not such a people: the Assyrian founded it. They have led away the strong ones thereof into captivity, they have destroyed the houses thereof, they have brought it to ruin.


Go, my people, enter into thy chambers, shut thy doors upon thee, hide thyself a little for a moment, until the indignation pass away.


Behold, the name of the Lord cometh from afar. His wrath burneth and is heavy to bear: his lips are filled with indignation, and his tongue as a devouring fire.


For the indignation of the Lord is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies: he hath killed them and delivered them to slaughter.


Behold the day, behold it is come: destruction is gone forth, the rod hath blossomed, pride hath budded.


And I poured out my indignation upon them: in the fire of my wrath I consumed them. I have rendered their way upon their own head, saith the Lord God.


Wast thou not from the beginning, O Lord my God, my holy one, and we shall not die? Lord, thou hast appointed him for judgment: and made him strong for correction.


They shall come in galleys from Italy: they shall overcome the Assyrians, and shall waste the Hebrews: and at the last they themselves also shall perish.


Is it without the will of the Lord that I am come up to this place to destroy it? The Lord said to me: Go up to this land and destroy it.


And I will make a trench about Ariel, and it shall be in sorrow and mourning, and it shall be to me as Ariel.


For it is a people that provoketh to wrath, and lying children, children that will not hear the law of God.
