And devout men took order for Stephen's funeral, and made great mourning over him.


And they sat with him on the ground seven days and seven nights: and no man spoke to him a word. For they saw that his grief was very great.


And David made this kind of lamentation over Saul, and over Jonathan his son.


And they took their bones and buried them in the wood of Jabes: and fasted seven days.


And the children of Israel mourned for him in the plains of Moab thirty days. And the days of their mourning in which they mourned for Moses were ended.


These are the words, which Moses spoke to all Israel beyond the Jordan, in the plain wilderness, over against the Red Sea, between Pharan and Thophel and Laban and Haseroth, where there is very much gold:


He that toucheth the corpse of a man, and is therefore unclean seven days:


And when the inhabitants of Chanaan saw this, they said: This is a great mourning to the Egyptians. And therefore the name of that place was called: The mourning of Egypt.


And the time of the mourning being expired, Joseph spoke to the family of Pharao: If I have found favour in your sight, speak in the ears of Pharao.


Esau therefore always hated Jacob for the blessing wherewith his father had blessed him: and he said in his heart: The days will come of the mourning of my father, and I will kill my brother Jacob.


And while they were fulfilling his commands, there passed forty days: for this was the manner with bodies that were embalmed. And Egypt mourned for him seventy days.


He had also in his train chariots and horsemen: and it was a great company.


And Aaron being dead in the top of the mountain, he came down with Eleazar.


And the wife of Urias heard that Urias her husband was dead: and she mourned for him.


And they shall fear high things, and they shall be afraid in the way, the almond tree shall flourish, the locust shall be made fat, and the caper tree shall be destroyed: because man shall go into the house of his eternity, and the mourners shall go round about in the street.


All the valiant men of them arose, and took the bodies of Saul and of his sons, and brought them to Jabes, and buried their bones under the oak that was in Jabes. And they fasted seven days.
