And when David had made an end of speaking these words to Saul, Saul said: Is this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.


But they hearing this, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest. And Jesus alone remained, and the woman standing in the midst.


The night is passed, and the day is at hand. Let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and put on the armour of light.


Now we know, that what things soever the law speaketh, it speaketh to them that are in the law; that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may be made subject to God.


Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of penance.


Thy eyes are too pure to behold evil, and thou canst not look on iniquity. Why lookest thou upon them that do unjust things, and holdest thy peace when the wicked devoureth the man that is more just than himself?


Therefore, do thou also bear thy confusion, thou that hast surpassed thy sisters with thy sins doing more wickedly than they: for they are justified above thee. Therefore be thou also confounded and bear thy shame, thou that hast justified thy sisters.


Clothe thyself with beauty, and set thyself up on high: and be glorious, and put on goodly garments.


But now the scourge is come upon thee, and thou faintest. It hath touched thee, and thou art troubled.


And David said to the Lord, when he saw the angel striking the people: It is I. I am he that have sinned. I have done wickedly. These that are the sheep, what have they done? Let thy hand, I beseech thee, be turned against me, and against my father's house.


And when the king was come into his house at Jerusalem, he took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, allowing them provisions. And he went not in unto them; but they were shut up unto the day of their death living in widowhood.


So they spread a tent for Absalom on the top of the house: and he went in to his father's concubines before all Israel.


And she put off the garments of her widowhood, and took a veil, and changing her dress sat in the cross way, that leadeth to Thamnas; because Sela was grown up, and she had not been married to him.


And the father acknowledging it, said: It is my son's coat; an evil wild beast hath eaten him; a beast hath devoured Joseph.


And Adam knew Eve his wife: who conceived and brought forth Cain, saying: I have gotten a man through God.


And he said to David: Thou art more just than I. For thou hast done good to me; and I have rewarded thee with evil.
