22 Do not take away his life, nor shed his blood: but cast him into this pit, that is in the wilderness, and keep your hands harmless. Now he said this, being desirous to deliver him out of their hands and to restore him to his father.

AND at the same time, Herod the king stretched forth his hands, to afflict some of the church.


And Pilate seeing that he prevailed nothing, but that rather a tumult was made; taking water washed his hands before the people, saying: I am innocent of the blood of this just man; look you to it.


But thou shalt presently put him to death. Let thy hand be first upon him: and afterwards the hands of all the people.


Neither did he lay his hand upon those of the children of Israel, that retired afar off. And they saw God, and they did eat and drink.


And Ruben, one of them, said: Did not I say to you: Do not sin against the boy; and you would not hear me? Behold, his blood is required.


And he said to him: Lay not thy hand upon the boy, neither do thou any thing to him. Now I know that thou fearest God, and hast not spared thy only begotten son for my sake.


And Ruben hearing this, endeavoured to deliver him out of their hands, and said:


And as soon as he came to his brethren, they forthwith stript him of his outside coat, that was of divers colours:


But yet Elnathan and Dalaias and Gamarias spoke to the king, not to burn the book: and he heard them not.
