3 Let us make a covenant with the Lord our God, to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the will of the Lord, and of them that fear the commandment of the Lord our God. Let it be done according to the law.

And there were assembled to me all that feared the God of Israel, because of the transgression of those that were come from the captivity. And I sat sorrowful, until the evening sacrifice.


And because of all this we ourselves make a covenant, and write it: and our princes, our Levites, and our priests sign it.


Go, and pray to the Lord for me, and for the remnant of Israel, and Juda, concerning all the words of this book, which is found. For the great wrath of the Lord hath fallen upon us, because our fathers have not kept the words of the Lord, to do all things that are written in this book.


That thou mayst pass in the covenant of the Lord thy God, and in the oath which this day the Lord thy God maketh with thee.


And the Lord said to him: Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and mark Thau upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and mourn for all the abominations that are committed in the midst thereof.


My hand made all these things, and all these things were made, saith the Lord. But to whom shall I have respect, but to him that is poor and little and of a contrite spirit, and that trembleth at my words?


To the law rather, and to the testimony. And if they speak not according to this word, they shall not have the morning light.


And they found written in the law, that the Lord had commanded by the hand of Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in tabernacles, on the feast, in the seventh month.


All these had taken strange wives: and there were among them women that had borne children.


And thy heart was softened, and thou hast humbled thyself in the sight of God for the things that are spoken against this place, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and reverencing my face, hast rent thy garments, and wept before me: I also have heard thee, saith the Lord.


But the hand of God was in Juda, to give them one heart to do the word of the Lord, according to the commandment of the king, and of the princes.


Now therefore I have a mind that we make a covenant with the Lord the God of Israel: and he will turn away the wrath of his indignation from us.


And Joiada made a covenant between the Lord, and the king, and the people, that they should be the people of the Lord, and between the king and the people.


And they went to Josue, who then abode in the camp at Galgal, and said to him, and to all Israel with him: We are come from a far country, desiring to make peace with you. And the children of Israel answered them, and said:


Then all the men of Juda and Benjamin gathered themselves together to Jerusalem within three days, in the ninth month, the twentieth day of the month. And all the people sat in the street of the house of God, trembling, because of the sin and the rain.


And now make confession to the Lord the God of your fathers; and do his pleasure; and separate yourselves from the people of the land, and from your strange wives.


And the subscribers were Nehemias, Athersatha the son of Hacherlai, and Sedecias,
