12 [Remember] that you were at that time separated (living apart) from Christ [excluded from all part in Him], utterly estranged and outlawed from the rights of Israel as a nation, and strangers with no share in the sacred compacts of the [Messianic] promise [with no knowledge of or right in God's agreements, His covenants]. And you had no hope (no promise); you were in the world without God.

But then indeed, not knowing God, you served them, who, by nature, are not gods.


And you, whereas you were some time alienated and enemies in mind in evil works:


Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy hath regenerated us unto a lively hope, by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,


For if we believe that Jesus died, and rose again; even so them who have slept through Jesus, will God bring with him.


Having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their hearts.


And I will make a covenant of peace with them, it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will establish them, and will multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for ever.


Not in the passion of lust, like the Gentiles that know not God:


I am the vine; you the branches: he that abideth in me, and I in him, the same beareth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing.


That by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have the strongest comfort, who have fled for refuge to hold fast the hope set before us.


That is to say, not they that are the children of the flesh, are the children of God; but they, that are the children of the promise, are accounted for the seed.


And many days shall pass in Israel, without the true God, and without a priest a teacher, and without the law.


But sanctify the Lord Christ in your hearts, being ready always to satisfy every one that asketh you a reason of that hope which is in you.


For this cause therefore I desired to see you, and to speak to you. Because that for the hope of Israel, I am bound with this chain.


You are the children of the prophets, and of the testament which God made to our fathers, saying to Abraham: And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.


O Lord, the hope of Israel: all that forsake thee shall be confounded: they that depart from thee shall be written in the earth: because they have forsaken the Lord, the vein of living waters.


That day God made a covenant with Abram, saying: To thy seed will I give this land, from the river of Egypt even to the great river Euphrates.


And every one that hath this hope in him, sanctifieth himself, as he also is holy.


Who through him are faithful in God, who raised him up from the dead, and hath given him glory, that your faith and hope might be in God.


Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, recovered strength from weakness, became valiant in battle, put to flight the armies of foreigners:


Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the commandment of God our Savior, and of Christ Jesus our hope:


Exhort your hearts, and confirm you in every good work and word.


To whom God would make known the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ, in you the hope of glory.


For the hope that is laid up for you in heaven, which you have heard in the word of the truth of the gospel,


And other sheep I have, that are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd.


You adore that which you know not: we adore that which we know; for salvation is of the Jews.


To perform mercy to our fathers, and to remember his holy testament,


For the children of Israel shall sit many days without king, and without prince, and without sacrifice, and without altar, and without ephod, and without theraphim.


And my hand shall be upon the prophets that see vain things and that divine lies. They shall not be in the council of my people, nor shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel: neither shall they enter into the land of Israel: and you shall know that I am the Lord God.


O expectation of Israel, the Saviour thereof in time of trouble: Why wilt thou be a stranger in the land and as a wayfaring man turning in to lodge?


Assemble yourselves, and come, and draw near together, ye that are saved of the Gentiles. They have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven work and pray to a god that cannot save.


Thus saith the Lord, the king of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: I am the first, and I am the last: and besides me there is no God.


But Zorobabel, and Josue, and the rest of the chief of the fathers of Israel said to them: You have nothing to do with us to build a house to our God; but we ourselves alone will build to the Lord our God, as Cyrus king of the Persians hath commanded us.


All the first-fruits of the sanctuary which the children of Israel offer to the Lord, I have given to thee and to thy sons and daughters, by a perpetual ordinance. It is a covenant of salt for ever before the Lord, to thee and to thy sons.


And strangers shall stand and shall feed your flocks: and the sons of strangers shall be your husbandmen and the dressers of your vines.


HER time is near at hand, and her days shall not be prolonged. For the Lord will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose out of Israel, and will make them rest upon their own ground. And the stranger shall be joined with them, and shall adhere to the house of Jacob.


And you shall divide it by lot for an inheritance to you, and to the strangers that shall come over to you, that shall beget children among you: and they shall be unto you as men of the same country born among the children of Israel: they shall divide the possession with you in the midst of the tribes of Israel.


For the promise is to you, and to your children, and to all that are far off, whomsoever the Lord our God shall call.


Now therefore you are no more strangers and foreigners; but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and the domestics of God,


But now he hath obtained a better ministry, by how much also he is a mediator of a better testament, which is established on better promises.


The stranger and the hireling shall not eat thereof.
