Deuteronomy 19:17

And thou shalt come to the priests of the Levitical race, and to the judge, that shall be at that time. And thou shalt ask of them. And they shall shew thee the truth of the judgment.


And the priests the sons of Levi shall come, whom the Lord thy God hath chosen to minister to him, and to bless in his name, and that by their word every matter should be decided, and whatsoever is clean or unclean should be judged.


For the lips of the priest shall keep knowledge, and they shall seek the law at his mouth: because he is the angel of the Lord of hosts.


If the thief be not known, the master of the house shall be brought to the gods, and shall swear that he did not lay his hand upon his neighbour's goods,


If there be a controversy between men, and they call upon the judges: they shall give the prize of justice to him whom they perceive to be just. And him whom they find to be wicked they shall condemn of wickedness.


And when there shall be a controversy, they shall stand in my judgments, and shall judge: they shall keep my laws, and my ordinances in all my solemnities, and sanctify my sabbaths.


His master shall bring him to the gods, and he shall be set to the door and the posts, and he shall bore his ear through with an awl. And he shall be his servant for ever.


Thou shalt appoint judges and magistrates in all thy gates, which the Lord thy God shall give thee, in all thy tribes. That they may judge the people with just judgment,
