At Damascus, the governor of the nation under Aretas the king, guarded the city of the Damascenes, to apprehend me.


Requesting favour against him, that he would command him to be brought to Jerusalem, laying wait to kill him in the way.


Serving the Lord with all humility, and with tears, and temptations which befell me by the conspiracies of the Jews;


Where, when he had spent three months, the Jews laid wait for him, as he was about to sail into Syria; so he took a resolution to return through Macedonia.


For if I have injured them, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die. But if there be none of these things whereof they accuse me, no man may deliver me to them: I appeal to Caesar.


And when I was told of ambushes that they had prepared for him, I sent him to thee, signifying also to his accusers to plead before thee. Farewell.


I was cast upon thee from the womb. From my mother's womb thou art my God,


But the disciples taking him in the night, conveyed him away by the wall, letting him down in a basket.


Lie not in wait, nor seek after wickedness in the house of the just, nor spoil his rest.
