All these the sons of David, beside the sons of the concubines. And they had a sister Thamar.


The third Absalom the son of Maacha the daughter of Tolmai king of Gessur: the fourth Adonias the son of Aggith:


And there were born to Absalom three sons, and one daughter, whose, name was Thamar; and she was very beautiful.


Then Amnon hated her with an exceeding great hatred: so that the hatred wherewith he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her before. And Amnon said to her: Arise, and get thee gone.


Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: the woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.


Let not thy heart covet her beauty, be not caught with her winks:


And king Solomon loved many strange women besides the daughter of Pharao. And women of Moab, and of Ammon, and of Edom, and of Sidon, and of the Hethites:


In the mean time it happened that David arose from his bed after noon, and walked upon the roof of the king's house. And he saw from the roof of his house a woman washing herself, over against him: and the woman was very beautiful.


And his soul was fast knit unto her: and, whereas she was sad, he comforted her with sweet words.


So Jacob served seven years for Rachel: and they seemed but a few days, because of the greatness of his love.


And Jacob being in love with her said: I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.


The sons of God seeing the daughters of men, that they were fair, took themselves wives of all which they chose.


And he was exceedingly fond of her, so that he fell sick for the love of her: for, as she was a virgin, he thought it hard to do any thing dishonestly with her.
