And when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold a dead man was carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow: and a great multitude of the city was with her.


Then therefore Jesus said to them plainly: Lazarus is dead.


Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister Mary, and Lazarus.


His sisters therefore sent to him, saying: Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.


And thy own soul a sword shall pierce, that, out of many hearts, thoughts may be revealed.


As one whom the mother caresseth, so will I comfort you and you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.


Can a woman forget her infant, so as not to have pity on the son of her womb? And if she should forget, yet will not I forget thee.


And it came to pass after this that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick. And the sickness was very grievous, so that there was no breath left in him.


Now it fell out also that he told his brethren a dream, that he had dreamed: which occasioned them to hate him the more.


Now Israel loved Joseph above all his sons, because he had him in his old age: and he made him a coat of divers colours.


He said to him: Take thy only begotten son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and go into the land of vision: and there thou shalt offer him for a holocaust upon one of the mountains which I will shew thee.


He said to his father: My head acheth, my head acheth. But he said to his servant: Take him, and carry him to his mother.


And she went up and laid him upon the bed of the man of God, and shut the door. And going out,
