There was no king before him like unto him, that returned to the Lord with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his strength, according to all the law of Moses: neither after him did there arise any like him.


Thus shall you say to Ezechias king of Juda: Let not thy God deceive thee, in whom thou trustest. And do not say: Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the hands of the king of the Assyrians.


He trusted in God; let him now deliver him if he will have him; for he said: I am the Son of God.


That we may be unto the praise of his glory, we who before hoped Christ:


Truth is sprung out of the earth: and justice hath looked down from heaven.


They have not called upon the Lord; there have they trembled for fear where there was no fear.


Although he should kill me, I will trust in him. But yet I will reprove my ways in his sight;


After these things Josaphat king of Juda made friendship with Ochozias king of Israel, whose works were very wicked.


And they rose early in the morning, and went out through the desert of Thecua. And as they were marching Josaphat standing in the midst of them said: Hear me, ye men of Juda, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be secure. Believe his prophets, and all things shall succeed well.


And he called upon the Lord God, and said: Lord, there is no difference with thee, whether thou help with few, or with many. Help us, O Lord our God: for with confidence in thee, and in thy name, we are come against this multitude. O Lord thou art our God. Let not man prevail against thee.


But if thou wilt answer me: We trust in the Lord our God; Is it not he whose high places and altars Ezechias hath taken away, and hath said to Juda, and Jerusalem: You shall worship before this altar?


And said: I beseech thee, O Lord, remember how I have walked before thee in truth, and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Ezechias wept with great weeping.


And Rabsaces said to them: Speak to Ezechias: Thus saith the great king, the king of the Assyrians: What is this confidence, wherein thou trustest?
