14 Then Ezechias king of Juda sent messengers to the king of the Assyrians to Lachis, saying: I have offended, depart from me; and all that thou shalt put upon me, I will bear. And the king of the Assyrians put a tax upon Ezechias king of Juda, of three hundred talents of silver, and thirty talents of gold.

Wherefore the Lord also was with him: and in all things, to which he went forth, he behaved himself wisely. And he rebelled against the king of the Assyrians, and served him not.


Or else, whilst the other is yet afar off, sending an embassy, he desireth conditions of peace.


He that feareth man, shall quickly fall: he that trusteth in the Lord, shall be set on high.


And the king of Israel answered: According to thy word, my lord, O king, I am thine, and all that I have.


Therefore the overseers of the house, and the rulers of the city, and the ancients, and the tutors sent to Jehu, saying: We are thy servants: whatsoever thou shalt command us we will do; neither will we make us a king. Do thou all that pleaseth thee.


Now they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem: and he fled to Lachis. And they sent after him to Lachis; and killed him there.


And Rabsaces returned, and found the king of the Assyrians besieging Lobna: for he had heard that he was departed from Lachis.


And the army of the king of Babylon fought against Jerusalem and against all the cities of Juda that were left, against Lachis, and against Azecha: for these remained of the cities of Juda, fenced cities.


And Manahem laid a tax upon Israel, on all that were mighty and rich, to give the king of the Assyrians, each man fifty sicles of silver: so the king of the Assyrians turned back, and did not stay in the land.
