21 And Saul answering said: Am not I a son of Jemini of the least tribe of Israel, and my kindred the last among all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? Why then hast thou spoken this word to me?

And Samuel said: When thou wast a little one in thy own eyes, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel? And the Lord anointed thee to be king over Israel.


To me, the least of all the saints, is given this grace, to preach among the Gentiles, the unsearchable riches of Christ,


Because every one that exalteth himself, shall be humbled; and he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted.


Because they have persecuted him whom thou hast smitten; and they have added to the grief of my wounds.


When Ephraim spoke, a horror seized Israel: and he sinned in Baal and died.


And the servants of Saul spoke all these words in the ears of David. And David said: Doth it seem to you a small matter to be the king's son-in-law? But I am a poor man, and of small ability.


And David said to Saul: Who am I, or what is my life, or my father's family in Israel, that I should be son-in-law of the king?


But the children of Belial said: Shall this fellow be able to save us? And they despised him, and brought him no presents. But he dissembled as though he heard not.


Then Samuel, taking Saul and his servant, brought them into the parlour, and gave them a place at the head of them that were invited. For there were about thirty men.


For Cis was the father of Saul, and Ner the father of Abner was son of Abiel.


Add thou iniquity upon their iniquity: and let them not come into thy justice.
