Wine is a luxurious thing, and drunkenness riotous: whosoever is delighted therewith shell not be wise.


And Absalom had commanded his servants, saying: Take notice when Amnon shall be drunk with wine, and when I shall say to you: Strike him, and kill him; fear not, for it is I that command you. Take courage, and be valiant men.


And it came to pass after two years that the sheep of Absalom were shorn in Baalhasor, which is near Ephraim: and Absalom invited all the king's sons.


And she said to her servants: Go before me. Behold, I will follow after you. But she told not her husband Nabal.


Let us walk honestly, as in the day: not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and impurities, not in contention and envy:


Behold I send you as sheep in the midst of wolves. Be ye therefore wise as serpents and simple as doves.


And be not drunk with wine, wherein is luxury; but be ye filled with the holy Spirit,


Wherefore he saith: Rise thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead: and Christ shall enlighten thee.


And take heed to yourselves, lest perhaps your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting and drunkenness, and the cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly.


And he said to him also that had invited him: When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, nor thy kinsmen, nor thy neighbours who are rich; lest perhaps they also invite thee again, and a recompense be made to thee.


For as thorns embrace one another: so while they are feasting and drinking together, they shall be consumed as stubble that is fully dry.


Fornication, and wine, and drunkenness take away the understanding.


And I will make her princes drunk, and her wise men and her captains and her rulers and her valiant men: and they shall sleep an everlasting sleep and shall awake no more, saith the king whose name is Lord of hosts.


The crown of pride of the drunkards of Ephraim shall be trodden under feet.


Woe to you that rise up early in the morning to follow drunkenness and to drink till the evening, to be inflamed with wine.


For laughter they make bread, and wine that the living may feast: and all things obey money.

And they went out at noon. But Benadad was drinking himself drunk in his pavilion, and the two and thirty kings with him, who were come to help him.


But early in the morning, when Nabal had digested his wine, his wife told him these words: and his heart died within him, and he became as a stone.


And he came to David in Hebron with twenty men. And David made a feast for Abner, and his men that came with him.
