And the children of Ammon, seeing that they had done an injury to David, sent and hired the Syrians of Rohob, and the Syrians of Soba, twenty thousand footmen, and of the king of Maacha a thousand men, and of Istob twelve thousand men.


And there was a great war against the Philistines all the days of Saul. For whomsoever Saul saw to be a valiant man, and fit for war, he took him to himself.


And the Lord did not say that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joas.


God also raised up against him an adversary, Razon the son of Eliada, who had fled from his master Adarezer the king of Soba.


David defeated also Adarezer the son of Rohob king of Soba, when he went to extend his dominion over the river Euphrates.


Saul was a child of one year when he began to reign, and he reigned two years over Israel.


And now the king goeth before you. But I am old and greyheaded: and my sons are with you. Having then conversed with you from my youth unto this day, behold here I am.


And Saul went back, and did not pursue after the Philistines: and the Philistines went to their own places.


Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, within the tabernacle of the Lord: and his name was Doeg, an Edomite, the chiefest of Saul's herdsmen.


And the elder bore a son, and called his name Moab: he is the father of the Moabites unto this day.


The younger also bore a son, and called his name Ammon, that is, the son of my people: he is the father of the Ammonites unto this day.


And these are the generations of Esau, the: same is Edom.


These are the sons of Esau, and these the dukes of them: the same is Edom.


From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the valiant, the arrow of Jonathan never turned back; and the sword of Saul did not return empty.


And David reigned over all Israel: and David did judgment and justice to all his people.
