He was happy to see Esther, and he held out the gold scepter to her. When Esther came up and touched the tip of the scepter,

“Jonathan, I swear it's true! But your father knows how much you like me, and he didn't want to break your heart. That's why he didn't tell you. I swear by the living Lord and by your own life that I'm only one step ahead of death.”


Ruth bowed down to the ground and said, “You know I come from another country. Why are you so good to me?”


Then Joshua said: Our Lord, did you bring us across the Jordan River just so the Amorites could destroy us? This wouldn't have happened if we had agreed to stay on the other side of the Jordan.


The Lord was even angry with me because of you people, and he said, “Moses, I won't let you go into the land either.


Moses answered: You mean you'd stay here while the rest of the Israelites go into battle?
