1 On the first day of the seventh month, you must rest from your work and come together to celebrate at the sound of the trumpets.

Like a cloud, the Lord God will appear over his people, and his arrows will flash like lightning. God will sound his trumpet and attack in a whirlwind from the south.


A loud trumpet will be heard. Then the people of Israel who were dragged away to Assyria and Egypt will return to worship the Lord on his holy mountain in Jerusalem.


Our Lord, you bless those who join in the festival and walk in the brightness of your presence.


Although work on the temple itself had not yet begun, the people started offering sacrifices on the Lord's altar on the first day of the seventh month of that year.


While the sacred chest was being carried into Jerusalem, everyone was celebrating by shouting and playing music on horns, trumpets, cymbals, harps, and other stringed instruments.


Sound the trumpets and start the New Moon Festival. We must also celebrate when the moon is full.


And so, by the seventh month, priests, Levites, temple guards, musicians, workers, and many of the ordinary people had settled in the towns of Judah.


Celebrate the Harvest Festival each spring when you start harvesting your wheat, and celebrate the Festival of Shelters each autumn when you pick your fruit.

On the first day of the Harvest Festival, you must rest from your work, come together for worship, and bring a sacrifice of new grain.


Bring to the altar one bull, one full-grown ram, and seven rams a year old that have nothing wrong with them. And then offer these as sacrifices to please me.


Beginning on the fifteenth day of the seventh month and continuing for seven days, everyone must celebrate the Festival of Shelters in honor of me.


On the first day of this festival you must rest from your work and come together for worship.


On the eighth day, you must once again rest from your work and come together for worship.
