No magic charms can work against them— just look what God has done for his people.


Then Balaam said, “Wait here beside your offerings, and I'll go somewhere to be alone. Maybe the Lord will appear to me. If he does, I will tell you everything he says.” And he left.


I do have a few things against you. Some of you are following the teaching of Balaam. Long ago he told Balak to teach the people of Israel to eat food that had been offered to idols and to be immoral.


They are the ones who followed Balaam's advice and invited our people to worship the god Baal Peor. That's why the Lord punished us by killing so many of our people.


So he took Balaam to Mount Peor overlooking the desert north of the Dead Sea.


“My command from God was to bless these people, and there's nothing I can do to change what he has done.


“Wait here beside your offerings,” Balaam said. “The Lord will appear to me over there.”


The next morning, Balaam said to Balak's officials, “Go on back home. The Lord says I cannot go with you.”


“David, my son, I pray that the Lord will bless you and make you successful!” Saul went back home. David also left,


Saul took 3,000 of Israel's best soldiers and went to look for David there in Ziph Desert.


I realize now that you will be the next king, and a powerful king at that.


The leaders of Moab and Midian left and took along money to pay Balaam. When they got to his house, they gave him Balak's message.


After Balak had done what Balaam asked, he sacrificed a bull and a ram on each altar.
