29 They made a crown out of thorn branches and placed it on his head, and they put a stick in his right hand. The soldiers knelt down and pretended to worship him. They made fun of him and shouted, “Hey, you king of the Jews!”

He was hated and rejected; his life was filled with sorrow and terrible suffering. No one wanted to look at him. We despised him and said, “He is a nobody!”


and then they will hand him over to foreigners who will make fun of him. They will beat him and nail him to a cross. But on the third day he will rise from death.


They made fun of Jesus and shouted, “Hey, you king of the Jews!”


Above his head they put a sign that told why he was nailed there. It read, “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.”


Judas walked right up to Jesus and said, “Hello, teacher.” Then Judas kissed him.


You tricked me, Lord, and I was really fooled. You are stronger than I am, and you have defeated me. People never stop sneering and insulting me.


Israel, I am the holy Lord God, the one who rescues you. You are slaves of rulers and of a nation who despises you. Now this is what I promise: Kings and rulers will honor you by kneeling at your feet. You can trust me! I am your Lord, the holy God of Israel, and you are my chosen ones.


It is for your sake alone that I am insulted and blush with shame.


They put a purple robe on him, and on his head they placed a crown they had made out of thorn branches.
