Jesus said to them: Go tell that fox, “I am going to force out demons and heal people today and tomorrow, and three days later I'll be through.”


Herod was very sorry for what he had said. But he did not want to break the promise he had made in front of his guests.


because Herod was afraid of John and protected him. He knew that John was a good and holy man. Even though Herod was confused by what John said, he was glad to listen to him. And he often did.


Jesus became so well-known that Herod the ruler heard about him. Some people thought he was John the Baptist, who had come back to life with the power to work miracles.


Herod wanted to kill John. But the people thought John was a prophet, and Herod was afraid of what they might do.


About this time Herod the ruler heard the news about Jesus


Don't talk before you think or make promises to God without thinking them through. God is in heaven, and you are on earth, so don't talk too much.


Saul replied, “I swear by the living Lord that nothing will happen to you because of this.”


I swear that by morning, there won't be a man or boy left from his family or his servants' families. I pray that God will punish me if I don't do it!”


Then a soldier told him, “Your father swore that anyone who ate food today would be put under a curse, and we agreed not to eat. That's why we're so weak.”


When the Israelites had met at Mizpah before the war with Benjamin, they had made this sacred promise: “None of us will ever let our daughters marry any man from Benjamin.”


Then she went back to her father. He did what he had promised, and she never got married. That's why


But the girl's mother told her to say, “Here on a serving plate I want the head of John the Baptist!”
