I, the Lord God, will give food and drink to my servants, and they will celebrate. But all of you sinners will go hungry and thirsty, overcome with disgrace.


Be sad and sorry and weep. Stop laughing and start crying. Be gloomy instead of glad.


Sorrow may hide behind laughter, and happiness may end in sorrow.


You claim to be rich and successful and to have everything you need. But you don't know how bad off you really are. You are pitiful, poor, blind, and naked.


People will think they are safe and secure. But destruction will suddenly strike them like the pains of a woman about to give birth. And they won't escape.


Don't use dirty or foolish or filthy words. Instead, say how thankful you are.


Then when you have been thrown outside, you will weep and grit your teeth because you will see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets in God's kingdom.


But God said to him, “You fool! Tonight you will die. Then who will get what you have stored up?”


The people laughed at him because they knew she was dead.


They are like drunkards overcome by wine, or like twisted thornbushes burning in a fire.


Your festivals and joyful singing will turn into sorrow. You will wear sackcloth and shave your heads, as you would at the death of your only son. It will be a horrible day.


Priests and prophets stumble because they are drunk. Their minds are too confused to receive God's messages or give honest decisions.


like wild animals attacking and eating everyone around them, even their own relatives. But still they were not satisfied.


They will go around in great pain and will become so hungry that they will angrily curse their king and their gods. And when they try to find help in heaven


Foolish laughter is stupid. It sounds like thorns crackling in a fire.


Choose sorrow over laughter because a sad face may hide a happy heart.


Laughing and having fun is crazy. What good does it do?


If I have too much to eat, I might forget about you; if I don't have enough, I might steal and disgrace your name.


But we each will go down to our ancestors, never again to see the light of day.


People who once had plenty to eat must now hire themselves out for only a piece of bread. But you give the hungry more than enough to eat. A woman did not have a child, and you gave her seven, but a woman who had many was left with none.


But you rich people are in for trouble. You have already had an easy life!


You are in for trouble when everyone says good things about you. That is what your own people said about those prophets who told lies.
