He was hated and rejected; his life was filled with sorrow and terrible suffering. No one wanted to look at him. We despised him and said, “He is a nobody!”


Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said, “Here is the man!”


Jesus answered: Elijah certainly will come to get everything ready. But don't the Scriptures also say that the Son of Man must suffer terribly and be rejected?


Israel, I am the holy Lord God, the one who rescues you. You are slaves of rulers and of a nation who despises you. Now this is what I promise: Kings and rulers will honor you by kneeling at your feet. You can trust me! I am your Lord, the holy God of Israel, and you are my chosen ones.


But I am merely a worm, far less than human, and I am hated and rejected by people everywhere.


About this time Herod the ruler heard the news about Jesus


Herod had earlier arrested John and had him chained and put in prison. He did this because John had told him, “It isn't right for you to take Herodias, the wife of your brother Philip.”


When Herod's birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced for the guests. She pleased Herod


Then the chief priests and the teachers of the Law of Moses stood up and accused him of all kinds of bad things.


Suppose a rich person wearing fancy clothes and a gold ring comes to one of your meetings. And suppose a poor person dressed in worn-out clothes also comes.


You must not give the best seat to the one in fancy clothes and tell the one who is poor to stand at the side or sit on the floor.
